Corte Tomasin is a third-generation family-run business that decided 20 years ago to be one of the first in Friuli to introduce olive cultivation for the production of extra virgin olive oil.

Founded in the 50s, it was based on the production of cereals and livestock, arriving at the present day with a radical change starting from the “CORTE TOMASIN” brand, which recalls the context of the company headquarters.

Corte Tomasin: a legacy of passion and quality in the heart of Friuli

Corte Tomasin is much more than a farm: it is a story of family, tradition and innovation. Now in its third generation, this company has chosen to stand out, becoming one of the first in Friuli to dedicate itself to the cultivation of olives for the production of an extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality. A courageous and visionary choice, which has radically transformed the identity of the company, while maintaining its roots firmly in the territory and its history.

A unique territory, a generous nature

Located in the middle of Friuli, along the suggestive “line of springs”, Corte Tomasin enjoys an extraordinarily fertile environment, rich in water, flora and fauna. A unique microclimate, made mild by the proximity of the sea to the south, protected by the Alps to the north and characterised by the presence of the Bora, the eastern wind that gives the area less harsh winters. Here, where nature expresses itself in all its generosity, the company has found the perfect place to cultivate excellence.

Friuli-Venezia Giulia Mixed cultures, fine wines and unique olive oils

Nestled in the northeastern corner of Italy, bordered by Austria to the north, Slovenia to the east, face to face with the beautiful Adriatic to the south and embraced by the Veneto to the west, is one of the country's best-kept secrets: the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Home to 1.2 million residents and covering 7,856 square kilometres, Italy's fifth smallest region is also one of only five autonomous regions. Along with its peers, Friuli-Venezia Giulia operates independently of Italian state control, maintaining sole responsibility for its administration, legislation and finances. The region encompasses a range of climates and landscapes from the Mediterranean in the south to the Alpine in the north.

42.5% are mountainous in the north, 19.3% are hilly in the south-east and 38.2% are coastal plains.

More than any other region, Friuli-Venezia Giulia is a true melting pot of cultures, with Italian, Slavic and Austrian influences. In the north, Austrian and Slavic cuisine dominate and a variety of goulash and soups can be found, as well as a persistent reliance on local crops such as polenta and maize products. Historically, this area was closed to the rest of the region due to the harsh climate and rugged mountains, reducing free trade to a minimum. In the south, seafood prevails. In the west and centre, Venetian influences abound. Cereals, vegetables and the famous Friulian ham are commonplace. Over time, this northernmost corner of Italy has mixed ethnicities, cuisines and cultures to create a very special and diverse region.

Friuli-Venezia Giulia is perhaps best known for producing some of the most magnificent white wines in the world. Not widely available outside Italy, they are a real treat to taste when visiting the region. Often described as ‘intelligent’, reflecting the fusion of Latin, Germanic and Slavic cultures, Friulian wines reveal many traditions and are complex, with layer upon layer of flavour and fragrance. Pinot, Traminer, Riesling, Malvasia and indigenous grapes including Ribolla Gialla and Verduzzo are the most commonly grown. The region's reputation for producing exquisite wines is in no way the result of large-scale production. In fact, it is the dedication of a handful of small winegrowers, dedicated to quality, that keeps Friulian wines in a class of excellence in their own right.

A similar scenario can be seen in the small olive oil producers in this region. In an area where star_bold olives are not as popular as in Puglia or Sicily, a small group of passionate farmers have invested time and resources in the production of an exceptional extra virgin olive oil. The olive oils produced in this region are known for their delicacy, lightness of aroma and taste. In the hills, the oils are soft and yellowish-green while those produced in Trieste are greenish-yellow and characteristically spicy. Friuli oils are appreciated for their versatility, with organoleptic characteristics that allow for extended cooking times and use in the preparation of desserts.

In Friuli, whether wine or olive producers, the commitment to convince and cultivate what their land offers in the simplest and most respectful way is ingrained in the people of this region. A glass of Friulian wine and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil enjoyed with friends and family is truly heaven on earth.
